Teen-ventor Solves Worldwide Household Problem

Young Benjamin Stern of Florida has something YOU want, need and will save you money! And will change how millions around the planet will wash their hair and bathe!

Nohbo” bottleless shampoo invention

I saw my mom using laundry detergent tablets and, ‘Eureka!’, the idea came to me that hair products and body washes could be delivered the same way. … I asked myself, ‘Why can’t I create it?

  • How many shampoo bottles do you have around your bathtub or shower?
  •  Ben has patented and brought to market solution that promises to:
    1. remove costly chemicals, distribution and disposal.
    2. Save consumer money, cut environmental impact, and pollution….

Benjamin Stern, an 18-year-old from Melbourne, Florida, invented a novel way to package and dispense shampoo without using plastic bottles. Each year in the US alone, almost 1,200 football stadiums worth of shampoo bottle waste flood our oceans and landfills.

“This constant buildup of plastic material is incredibly unsustainable, and lethal to the mammals and soil around us,” explained Stern. “It’s disheartening to see this damage done to my home, and I want to help in any way I can. If that is changing an age old industry, so be it.”

Stern’s  bottleless shampoo invention, called “Nohbo” balls, has been a significant undertaking, requiring a time commitment and focus unusual for a high school student. Stern’s inventive process has gone through several stages, particularly in preparation for Nohbo’s debut last year on ABC’s Shark Tank.

KidBacker: Please tell KidBacker readers how Nohbo got started.
Benjamin Stern: After watching a documentary covering the ins and outs of the plastic bottling industry, I saw my mom using laundry detergent tablets and, eureka, the idea came to me that hair products and body washes could be delivered the same way. I did research and realized there wasn’t anything like that on the market. I asked myself, ‘Why can’t I create it?’

I was originally thinking of this as a regular consumer product, but then I took a trip and stayed in a hotel. I immediately thought, ‘My product would be perfect for this place.’ It will be cheaper to produce than the little bottles they have and it’s environmentally friendly. Hotels are increasingly aligning with environmental messages, like asking guests to reuse their towels during their stay to save energy and water, so I felt there would be a good fit.
